Our History

Nestled in the countryside of Henry County, Riverwood Farm is rich in history.  Circa 1779,

Lewis Franklin, a Private in the Virginia Militia during the Revolutionary War and having served

with General George Washington at Valley Forge, moved to the area and purchased land. Mr. Franklin

married Millicent Stone and established his farm where he raised cattle and tobacco.

A Southern Virginia Treasure
Years later, Ike and Lillian Parcell ran a dairy
barn on the property. The Carolina Cotton and Woolen Mill built by Marshall Field & Co. in 1919 brought people to live and work in the newly founded town of Fieldale. The Parcells expanded their dairy business and delivered milk by horse and carriage to the local residents.

Rustic Log Cabin
The log cabin was part of the original homeplace. It once was in front of the dairy barn but was later moved to its current location and restored by
The Johnson and The Hylton family.

A Place To Remember
Just as the dairy barn once served Fieldale by supplying its residents with milk we want to continue to serve the community by sharing this historic barn and farm with our community of neighbors, friends, and family.
